This world-famous museum needs little introduction. It is a number one tourist attraction that features over a million precious objects, spanning 5,000 years of culture.

Visitors can view the works of the old masters, discover the worlds of Monet, van Gogh, and the Impressionists, and explore the golden civilization of ancient Egypt. American history and domestic life are vividly portrayed in twenty-four period rooms.

Individuals and families will love touring this place on their own, or joining in on one of many guided Highlights Tours, each of which explores a special area of the Museum. Tours are offered in a variety of languages. Special performances and tours are also offered at The Cloisters.

Groups can take a Staff-Guided or Self-Guided Tour, and special tours for School Groups offer a unique and exciting educational opportunity. Options include Teacher-Guided Visits (enhanced by teachers taking special Workshops [(212) 570-3932] beforehand or visiting the Uris Library and Resource Center. Staff-Guided Tours are adaptable for grades 4 and up, with many great topics, such as The Art of Ancient Egypt, Ancient America, African Art, The Art of Armor and the Middle Ages, and more. First Views is a selection of special tours for Kindergarten through 3rd grade. Several Multi-Visit Programs (grade 6 and up) are available, with each session conducted by the same instructor and including hands-on activities in the arts.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is simply a "must see" for anyone interested in art or culture, or even history. So go there, bring your friends, family, or group for a rewarding experience.
