When it was founded in 1888, Anderson Pretzels hand-twisted and baked pretzels to the tune of 500 pounds per day.

Today visitors can observe the entire process, from mixing and extruding the dough to twisting (at the rate of 50,000 per hour!) to proofing -- where the twisted dough travels on conveyor belts into the oven room. The yeast reacts to the heat, "proofing" or raising the dough.

The pretzels are then cooked in a hot soda solution, salted, and baked in one of the modern tunnel ovens.

Who would have thought that pretzel-making could be so exciting? The 15- 30-minute tour is available for individuals, families and groups.
