Designed for children seven years old and younger, Please Touch Museum (PTM) is one of the nation's outstanding interactive educational facilities just for kids. PTM was founded in 1976 by a group of educators, artists and parents under the guidance of Monetessori educator Portia Sperr with the mission of stimulating the "understanding and curiosity of all children through hands-on exhibits, programs, and collections . . . " Please Touch Museum provides a unique environment where children (and adults) explore, discover and learn through the power of play.

The Museum's major exhibits feature:

  • Sendak at Please Touch Museum -- a collaboration between PTM and the Rosenbach Museum based on four books by celebrated artist Maurice Sendak. Visitors will find a fascinating world of creatures and settings created under Sendak's supervision.
  • Move It! is all about transportation. Kids can drive a SEPTA bus, operate a lock, gas up in the service station and much more.
  • Alice's Adventures in Wonderland ignites visitors imaginations as they travel through a rabbit hole into a magical wonderland of the classic children's book by Lewis Carroll.
  • Story Garden, where a cedar gazebo is part of a peaceful garden setting where children use their imaginations through storytelling and reading.
  • The Supermarket features creative hands-on activities and role playing opportunities designed to give children and adults a complete look and "feel" of how a supermarket works. Complete with mini shopping carts and kid size check out counters.
  • Kids Construct is a do-it-yourselfer's dream come true! Future architects, designers and builders can remodel their way through this unique backyard environment.
  • Barnyard Babies is a specially designed area for children ages three and younger. The setting is a charming farm environment that provides infants and toddlers the opportunity to develop early motor skills through fun, interactive activities and discovery as well as positive adult-child interaction to discover the fun of the farm.

Science Park, a joint project with the Franklin Institute Science Museum, is open for visitors from Memorial Day through Labor Day, weather permitting. Science Park is an outdoor interactive learning area with a wide variety of hands-on science related activities.
