State Building
350 Fifth Avenue New York, NY 10118 (212) 736-3100 - ext. 375 for groups Internet: http://www.esbnyc.com/ Without a doubt the most famous building in New York, if not the world, the Empire State Building soars more than a quarter mile into the Manhattan sky, offering visitors breathtaking views from both the 86th floor and 102nd floor observatories -- the 102nd floor observatory having reopened as of November, 2005. On a clear day visitors can see up to 80 miles, viewing the states of Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts, as well as New York. Since its construction in 1931, this National Historic Landmark has been visited by more than 117 million people -- greater than the population of most countries. If the Empire State Building was magnificent when it first opened it has only improved over the years. Today, as well as enjoying the famous panoramic view and Art Deco architecture the building has to offer, visitors can take the New York Skyride, a simulated helicopter ride and virtual reality movie theater. Concerts and Art Exhibits are held in the lobby year-round. And the view of the Empire State Building is as beautiful as the view from it, especially at night with the special lighting applied to the structure. The lighting scheme is changed regularly to commemorate many holidays and occasions throughout the year. The Empire State Building has earned its reputation as one of the most famous attractions in the world. A visit is both fun and educational. Group discounts for 10 or more people are available (for groups, one person must purchase all tickets). And the Empire State Building even has a great website, where visitors can purchase tickets online, see the lighting schedule, and read interesting facts and trivia. In today's world tighter security is called for just about everywhere. The Empire State Building is no exception. Check the official website for current visitor information. |
