The Robert J Novins Planetarium Sky Theater recently reopened and offers the latest technology to offer magnificent views of the universe through a variety of exciting programs for visitors of all ages.

Secret of the Cardboard Rocket carries the younger set on an enlightening tour of our solar system, while Touching the Edge of the Universe explores some of the latest astronomical discoveries as well as giving some historical perspective to this science. Even the realm of the deep sea on Earth can be enjoyed in Kaluoka'hina: The Enchanted Reef. And in Wonders of the Summer Sky our own familiar and not-so-familiar night time vistas are opened up to visitors by the breathtaking starfield of the Planetarium's new Zeiss projector.

A wide variety of School Group Programs are available for grades pre-K - 12 to enhance almost any course of study of astronomy or the natural sciences. For example:

  • Wonderful Sky (pre-K and K)
Reveals some secrets about the sky kids can see from their own backyards, such as constellations, moon phases, and more.
  • Sky Tales (Gr 1 - 3)
Explores the stories and legends that fill the skies, as well asthe constellations and planets for each season.
  • Other Worlds (Gr 3 - 5)
Gives students an in-depth tour of our solar system.
  • The Vital Triangle (Gr 6 - 12)
Focuses on the important relationship between the sun, earth and moon and how it effects us all.

The above are just a few examples of the types of school programs available. Note that specific programs are subject to change, but this sampling is representative of what is offered. Programs can also be tailored to suit the needs of a class.
